Website design and build

If people can't find what they need on your website, they leave, and they don't tell you why. I design and build websites that make sense the first time, so more of the people who visit end up getting in touch.

Is this right for you?

A good fit if you:

  • Need a website that explains a complicated service simply
  • Want people to book, buy or enquire without picking up the phone
  • Care about accessibility and want it done properly
  • Want someone to think about the content, not just the look

Probably not a fit if you:

  • Need a site live this week
  • Want a template with your logo dropped in
  • Are looking for the cheapest quote

How a project works

Five stages. You'll always know what's happening and what you're getting.

  1. Stage 1: Discover

    What happens
We talk about your business, your customers and what the website needs to do. I look at your current site, your competitors and what your customers are trying to get done.
    What you get
    • A short discovery summary
    • Agreed goals for the website
  2. Stage 2: Plan

    What happens
I work out what goes on the site and how it's organised, so people can find what they need without thinking about it.
    What you get
    • Sitemap
    • Content plan
    • Page priorities
  3. Stage 3: Design

    What happens
I design the key pages and test them as a clickable prototype before anything is built.
    What you get
    • Clickable prototype
    • Visual design for key pages
    • Two rounds of changes
  4. Stage 4: Build

    What happens
I build the website, test it on different devices and check it against WCAG 2.2 AA accessibility standards.
    What you get
    • A working website on a test address
    • Accessibility check
    • Content added
  5. Stage 5: Launch and support

    What happens
We go live, I show you how to update the site yourself, and I'm around afterwards if anything needs fixing.
    What you get
    • Launch
    • Training to edit your site
    • [Support period]

What it costs

Projects start from £5,000.

Most clients invest £8,000–£15,000

Every website is different, so I quote for each project. The price depends on what your site needs to do.

What affects the price

  • How many pages you need
  • Whether you need a content designer
  • Integrations, such as bookings, payments or a CRM
  • Any complex functionality or custom features

After a short conversation, I'll give you a fixed quote, so you know exactly what you're paying before we start.

Questions people ask

How long does a website take?

It depends on the size of the project. Most websites take 6–10 weeks from first conversation to launch. You'll get a timeline with your quote, so you know what to expect before we start.

Do you write the content?

I'll plan what content your site needs and how it's organised, and I can write draft content to get you started. For finished, professional copy, I work with experienced content designers and can include them in your quote.

What platform will my website be built on?

Whichever suits your project and budget best. I'll recommend the right option, [for example WordPress or Webflow], and explain why. If you already have a platform you prefer, I'm happy to work with it wherever possible.

Who hosts the website?

Ideally, you do. Hosting it in your own name means you stay in control of your website, whoever you work with in future. I'll help you set it up. If you'd rather not deal with it, I can arrange hosting for you.

Can I update the website myself?

Yes. Your site will be built on a content management system, so you can change text, images and pages whenever you like. Some layouts may be fixed to keep the design consistent, and we'll agree what's editable before we start.

What happens after launch?

That's up to you. Some clients want ongoing support and advice, others just need the site launched and handed over. Every project includes 8 weeks of fixes after launch, and I'll show you how to manage the site yourself.

How do payments work?

50% when we agree the project and 50% when your site goes live.
